About

Welcome here!  I’m Karsten Piper, and I’ll be reading poems to you as often as you drop by.  They’ll be poems I appreciate, and comments are certainly welcome.  And if those turn into conversations?  Better yet!

Why a blog of poetry recordings?

Because a poem aloud is the rest of the poem on the page.  Because I teach college writing and literature classes, many sections online, and want to grow a custom hoard of poems for students to hear read out loud. Because I’d rather be writing, myself, but don’t always, and reading aloud often makes me feel like doing the work again. And because you, friend, may discover something here that feeds your spirit or imagination a little bit.

So belly up.  It’s a poetry feed.

Want to know more? In January 2011, Nic Sebastian of Voice Alpha interviewed me about reading aloud and this blog. Read the interview here.

I had no idea you had this site. I am signed up! I loved this beautiful song by Bruce Springsteen. He captures the disorienting bewilderment of loss….thanks.

So here I am, stumbling around on the web, and what do I find? Karsten Piper, reading one of my poems! Karsten, you make me feel like a real poet. Thanks for the honor.

Do you plan to attend the Glen next year? If so, East or West? I have friends doing the East, but I hate the thought of passing up a chance to learn from Robert Cording. Missed you being there this last time. Pete was again great.

This is quite a site you have here- I’ll be returning often.
