“To the Future Husband of My Wife,” by Karsten Piper (Nic Sebastian, Feed Reader)

March 31, 2011

Today’s poem far prefers her warmth and toenails.

I’m completely snake-in-a-basket charmed by Nic’s reading of this one. The wry self-mockery I read this with myself is gone. It’s not me, not my poem anymore, yet I’m sucked in all the way by her sincerity. If you are too, go listen to more of Nic’s recordings at Whale Sound, where she regularly reads and posts the work of web-active poets.  She also blogs about the art and science of reading out loud for an audience at Voice Alpha.

My poem, “To the Future Husband of My Wife” was the What Light poem of the week back in the fall of 2007. If you hunt elsewhere in, you’ll find several other poems I’ve published, too. Not a very up to date list, I’m afraid.  I’ll have to get on that.

Today’s poem is one in an occasional series of readings submitted by Feed Readers (that’s you!).  If you’re interested in recording for A Poetry Feed, please take a look at the Submissions page.  I hope you do.

I like it very much. Such a wonderful poem—and a truly lovely voice.
