“Rearview Mirror,” by Robert Morgan & “A Martian Sends a Postcard Home,” by Craig Raine
Hey, I’m back from my laryngitis/chest cough hiatus. Thanks for your patience. Here, have an extra poem! Today’s two are a little pool in the air and a film to watch for anything missed.
These poems were in a bundle I read with my creative writing class this afternoon as we talked about stanzas. Next semester I might save them for the lesson on Riddling Poems or a day all about Rearview Mirrors. Funny how these connections don’t emerge until the poems are out loud and in the conversation.
Rearview Mirror is in Robert Morgan’s book The Strange Attractor: New and Selected Poems(Louisiana State University Press, 2004), and Craig Raine’s poem is the title piece in his book, A Martian Sends a Postcard Home (Oxford, 1980).
If you want to sort out these poems’ riddles for yourselves, read “Martian” here and “Rearview Mirror” here.
