“Surprise,” by Jane Kenyon

A poem that suggests pancakes at the local diner.

I–you–could read Jane Kenyon all day and not go wrong. I chose this poem because it is in my summer class textbook, The Compact Bedford Introduction to Literature (8th ed.) edited by Michael Meyer.  Kenyon published it in her book, Otherwise: New & Selected Poems (Graywolf, 1997).
