“Lacquer,” by Tomaž Šalamun
June 18, 2010
Kickoff for the USA-Slovenia World Cup soccer match in a few minutes. So, a poem with words like destiny, roll, slam, shout, snuff out, soul, sweet, death, and others you might hear during play-by-play of the game.
And moist dumpling. Can’t wait to hear how the announcers wangle that one into the telecast.
I read “Lacquer” from thezaurus.com, website of the Institute for Slovenian Studies of Victoria.
Na zdravje, Slovenians, and may the best team win.
